Subtitled…”How can we miss you if you never really went away?”
Welcome to The Rough Cut podcast (and the cheesy little site I built to go with it).
For most of you The Rough Cut might sound like a new venture when, in fact, it first kicked off about 12 years ago. And then, after a while…it just kicked off. Slowly at first, with a sporadic update or YouTube video every now and then. But ultimately The Rough Cut became the latest victim of the dread disease known as “podfailure”. In Latin – podus interruptus. There was no swan song. No final bow. It just faded away.
For anyone that’s ever tried to keep one of these things afloat, you know that it takes that magical recipe of content, commitment and continuity. A shortage of any one of those things will bring a podcast to its rightful death. The content was always there. Avid is blessed with tremendous access to the most accomplished film and tv editors in the industry, directors too. No, content was never the problem. But keeping up the steady pace required to continuously engage a listening audience proved to be too much of a challenge with all of the other “day job” commitments we all have.
“So why try again?”, I’d like to imagine you ask. Because the content is just too good. For those with aspirations to join the ranks of the great storytellers who edit the movies and tv shows we all know and love, or even for those who are fortunate enough to already be making a living doing it, there is incredible insight and advice to be gained from the men and women who graciously share their stories on this podcast.
That’s all for now. I’ll do my best to keep this train running. Please subscribe to the podcast or follow me on Twitter for the latest updates on any new shows. Thanks!
-Matt
